Students can also add more if they choose, such as pictures, more status updates, relationship updates, etc for added credit. They will then have to make 3 fake posts about how they think that character would have used Facebook at the time.
They will be required to put the following on their profile: Students will create this facebook profile with a Microsoft Publisher document that they will be provided with by me (link here). Using the template that I have created, students will need to demonstrate a basic understanding of the character, the events that they went through, who their friends, are marital status, etc. Part I has students choosing either Romeo, Juliet, or another important character from the play and creating a fake Facebook profile for them. I’d also like student to submit their PowToon site by either emailing it to me or tweeting it out for me to access. To incorporate social networking into this, I am having them use their knowledge of Facebook to recreate the site using aspects that are normally present. PowToon, while not a social networking site, still requires them to use a Web 2.0 platform.
I would also have students create a PowerPoint to show the class which would require them to summarize the story in 6-10 slides. Previously, I would have students fill out a character map for one or two of the characters in the story, analyzing their character using quotes from the story, descriptions, etc. This assignment will have two parts, and will allow students to demonstrate both their knowledge about Romeo and/or Juliet as characters, as well as their understanding of Romeo & Juliet as a story.
